Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was forcibly shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18 after a 21-day hunger strike over NEET irregularities, is now demanding a temporary discharge. He stated his vitals are “quite normal” and wants to hit the streets for the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ march to Parliament today.
Safdarjung Hospital authorities, however, are refusing to let him go, stating he still requires “continuous observation and treatment” due to severe dehydration.
Dipke Calls Off Fast: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who took over the hunger strike after Wangchuk’s hospitalization, officially ended his fast today (July 20) following an appeal from Wangchuk himself.
Govt Steps In For Talks: The Centre has finally reached out. CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are currently meeting with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to discuss their demands, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Legal Battle: Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, has dragged this to the Delhi High Court, challenging his forced hospital stay without family consent. The court agreed to hear the plea today at 2:30 PM.
