Massive Congress Showdown in Kerala: Lok Bhavan March Escalates Over Delhi Detentions

The political heat is spreading fast. Following the police crackdown and detention of top Congress leaders in New Delhi, massive protests have erupted across Kerala. On Tuesday night, Congress workers led a heavy march to Lok Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.

  • The Trigger: The agitation was sparked by the police action against national leaders—including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and K.C. Venugopal—who were detained while protesting outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence over the ongoing student crisis.
  • The Ground Zero: Led by KPCC president Sunny Joseph, the Thiruvananthapuram march saw massive participation from state ministers, MLAs, the Kerala Students Union (KSU), and Youth Congress workers.
  • The Clash: Things got intense when police blocked the route with barricades at Vellayambalam. Protesters tried to climb and tear down the blockades, leading to heated exchanges as police attempted to round them up.
  • Statewide Disruptions: The outrage wasn’t limited to the capital. Protesters completely halted the Yashwantpur Express in Kannur and the Vanchinad Express in Alappuzha, while also staging major road blockades in Kozhikode and Kochi.

Party leaders stated that this is only the beginning of their pushback against the police actions in New Delhi.
